What type of school do you work in?
Secondary School
What’s your favourite part of teaching so far?
Making a difference in small ways on a daily basis
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
To treat your NQT year as a year for development and learning and use all feedback as a opportunity to improve my practice.
Can you recommend a good teaching book?
Teach like a champion
Favourite tools, software, or equipment?
Visualiser – especially useful in a subject like English when you annotate a lot. The kids love it and find their learning journey is enhanced and certain barriers to learning are reduced as they find the scaffolding process to learning is mastered by using this equipment.
Who inspires you and why?
Watching other hard working teachers who really care about the students and wanting to improve as a teacher as result of seeing the difference they make.
When did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
From the age of sixteen, I fell in love with my subject English when completing my GCSEs and knew that I wanted to teach it and loved kids as well from a young age.
How do you unwind outside of work hours? What helps you to switch off?
Netflix and reading books.
